With a critical skills shortage in the construction management sector, particularly in the Tees Valley area where a 20% increase in managerial roles is projected by 2027, Middlesbrough College reached out to our team to develop a range of eLearning courses that educate and empower the next generation of construction professionals.
Drawing on our 20 years of knowledge and experience in crafting compelling content for the built environment, Okana collaborated with Middlesbrough College to develop an innovative online Higher National Certificate (HNC) qualification in Construction and Built Environment Management.
Our approach blended essential knowledge with modern learning, ensuring the material was not only informative but also engaging for learners to provide them with a comprehensive education that is tailored to the demands of the modern construction industry.
The specialised two-year programme offers students a BTEC Level 4 HNC in Construction and Built Environment Management, comprising of eight units with 60 guided learning hours, covering everything from construction practice and management to building information modelling (BIM), all aligned to industry standards.
The material also places an emphasis on applying critical reasoning and analysis to solve complex construction challenges, whilst covering personal and business skills to prepare students for professional roles in a dynamic industry.
The course has been recognised by the Institutes of Technology (IoT) and uses the latest in educational eLearning technology, providing students with an immersive and effective learning experience to set them up for success within the industry.
By bridging the skills gap in the construction sector and attracting young talent, the course proved a great success and has now been rolled out to neighbouring Hartlepool and Teesside Colleges, marking the beginning of a significant venture into the development of eLearning content and aiding in attracting young people to a career in construction.
Expanding on its achievements, Middlesbrough College took another leap forward in 2022 by partnering with London South East Colleges (LSEC) to introduce the programme to eight institutions within the LSEC network, offering a structured two-year educational programme which is set to launch in June 2024.
In preparation, Okana is actively involved in developing the content, alongside upskilling college lecturers and staff, ensuring they are fully equipped to deliver the new curriculum effectively and leverage the full potential of digital learning tools.
